Rank Promotions
Students may take examinations periodically during the year
to advance in rank levels that are universally recognized under the assocaitions relative to each martial art respectively.
Kyu grade rank exams evaluate and recognize the progress of students white belt through brown belts.
Dan grade rank exams are held yearly and evaluate and recognize the progress of students testing for their black belts.
There are 10 kyu levels and 10 dan levels, in the Japanese Martial Art ranking systems.
Depending upon the art, Shotokan Karate, Aikido, Kobudo or Jiu-Jitsu some senior instructors wait and test their students for 2 or 3 kyu levels at once instead of evaluating progress at each kyu level. Shotokan Karate exams evaluate students at each kyu level. Whereas; Kobudo, Aikido and Jiu-JItsu hold only four or five kyu level examinations.
